SINGAPORE - It began with unexpected drama. But there was no sting in the tail in the contest for the Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency (GRC). The People's Action Party's (PAP) four-member team led by anchor minister Vivian Balakrishnan as good as matched the PAP's national average of votes in its contest for the GRC. And Dr Balakrishnan, first-term Members of Parliament Christopher de Souza and Liang Eng Hwa, as well as new face and former civil servant Sim Ann, broke into smiles when the result was announced. The cheer was just as palpable in the stands at Jurong West Stadium, one of three assembly centres for the ruling party, with chants of "PAP" by flag-waving supporters as confetti fell towards the stage area.
