We all know that the PAP won 60.14% of the valid votes cast in the 2011 GE. But, how well did the PAP actually do, compared to the other parties? Here, we have a head-to-head comparison between PAP and the various parties: The PAP secured higher than national average percentage votes against all but 2 opposition parties. The WP and the SPP put up the closest fight, securing 46.72% and 41.42% of valid votes respectively. The Workers Party fielded 23 candidates in a total of 4 GRCs and 4 SMCs. Despite securing 46.72% of the vaild votes when head-to-head with the PAP, The WP only managed to win 6 seats in parliament, due in large part to the winner-takes-all GRC system in Singapore.
