SDA chief Desmond Lim only candidate to lose deposit #sgelections

SINGAPORE - He is the only candidate to lose his S$16,000 election deposit, after finishing at the bottom of the pile in the only three-cornered fight yesterday. Candidates must garner at least 12.5 per cent of the votes to ensure their deposit is not forfeited. With only under 1,400 votes out of a maximum 31,671, Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) secretary-general Desmond Lim finished way behind winner Michael Palmer of the People's Action Party (PAP) and runner-up Lee Li Lian of the Workers' Party (WP) in the single seat ward of Punggol East. But rather than mope, Mr Lim said the party was going back to the drawing board, as it looks ahead to the next General Election.
