TOKYO (AP) - A powerful typhoon packing winds up to 162kmh is lumbering toward the southern Japanese island of Okinawa and is expected to reach the island on Sunday. Island weather officials say Typhoon Bolaven is projected to be the strongest typhoon to hit Okinawa in several years. It's the 15th typhoon of the season. The storm was approaching Minami-Daito Island, some 400km south-east of Okinawa, on Saturday and moving north/north-west at a speed of 15kmh. The Japanese Meteorological Agency issued advisories for gale-force winds in Okinawa and high waves in the waters around the island, where more than half the 50,000 United States troops based in Japan are stationed.
