High tech initiatives to help in caring for elderly announced, including a robot exercise-coach

SINGAPORE - The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) launched the Silver IT Fest earlier today as part of its Silver Infocomm Initiative to promote IT awareness among seniors aged 50 and above. Under the IDA's Digital Inclusion Fund, 25 senior activity centres island-wide are expected to benefit from technology including Robocoach, a robot which coaches seniors on basic exercises, and NeuroAtHome, which uses motion control games for physical therapy. This was announced by Minister for Communications and Information Dr Yaacob Ibrahim launch ceremony at Nanyang Polytechnic. Dr Yaacob also announced the launch of Smart Eldercare, an collaboration between IDA, A*Star, NTUC Health and St Luke's Eldercare to explore the use of technology in caring for seniors. Technical trials of their solutions will be done at eldercare facilities by NTUC Health and St Luke's Elder...
