SINGAPORE - Municipal improvements and healthcare policies took centrestage in the battle for votes in Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC), which is helmed by Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan. The Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) team, led by Dr James Gomez, came up with a "People's Plan", which proposes converting void decks to polyclinics to help ease the crunch on medical facilities, as well as start a bus service on a non-profit basis that will cost less. Later, it also came up with an estate renewal programme for Sembawang GRC, which will revive plans for a regional commercial centre and see the town catering to installations in Sembawang such as military camps. On a national scale, the SDP also came up with a shadow healthcare plan, which proposes to triple or at least raise the Government healthcare budget to S$10 million.
