They thought they "knew-it-all" and they acted accordingly. The result was a backlash of resentment which cost them the Aljunied GRC and Hougang. Even the Prime Minister, engaging in a (seriously misguided) attempt to connect via the socialist platform of Facebook was taken aback at the abuse he faced online. He then tried the volte-face of a public apology. As one popular game-show host would say "bad try, but nice try". IMO, too little, too late. If the ruling party seriously desires to regain public trust, the first step must be to rewind and eat some humble pie. That includes shutting up those who feel the need to comment on everything they consider grist to their mill - Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong - two of the biggest mouths this side of the fence.
