Tripartism has benefitted all, says Manpower Minister Gan

SINGAPORE: Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong said tripartism has benefitted all in recent years, especially vulnerable workers. Speaking at a regional trade union conference, he said it allowed Singapore to survive the recent financial crisis relatively unscathed. Through the work of the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) and other training centres, over 600,000 workers have upgraded their skills over the past five years. The Tripartite Alliance on Fair Employment Practices (TAFEP) set up in 2006 has also encouraged some 1,600 companies so far to pledge their commitment to fair employment practices.
