Confidence level among Southeast Asian firms remains robust: survey

SINGAPORE : The confidence level among Southeast Asian companies remains robust. The Southeast Asia Capital Confidence Barometer survey by Ernst & Young (E&Y) showed that firms in the region are optimistic about their local economy, with many believing that the downturn is over. This is in contrast to companies in more developed economies which still feel the impact of the global economic crisis. Capital conditions for Southeast Asian companies have also improved in the last six months and interest in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) is also on the rise. Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia will likely be the top three markets for M&A transactions in the coming months. E&Y said more Southeast Asian companies prefer to expand in the region because it is within their comfort zone and opportunities here offer more growth.
