Bank Indonesia holds rate at 6.75% as inflation slows - TODAYonline

JAKARTA - The Indonesian central bank kept its overnight policy rate steady at 6.75 per cent on Thursday, as slowing inflation gave it room to hold off on further monetary tightening. Data released earlier this month showed headline inflation eased in April to 6.16 per cent, compared with 6.65 per cent in March and 6.84 per cent in February. However, core inflation - which excludes volatile food prices and the tariffs controlled by the government - has been edging up since December to 4.62 per cent in April. Despite the continued rise, Bank Indonesia Governor Darmin Nasution said last week core inflation wasn't yet exerting enough pressure to merit a rate hike.
