MediaCorp explains why it announced Polling Day results for Aljunied GRC only after 2am. #SGelections

WE THANK Mr Ng Keng Nam ('Coverage of results was appalling'; Tuesday) and Mr Narayana Narayana ('Viewers deserve an explanation for the long delay (three hours) in the most eagerly awaited result'; Wednesday) for their valuable feedback. They are timely as we are doing our own reviews on how else we could have improved our coverage of the General Election. Mr Narayana had asked about the 'long delay' in announcing Aljunied GRC's result. The official announcement came just after 2am on Sunday and was carried 'live' on Vote 2011 Singapore telecast on MediaCorp's TV channels. The conduct of polling is such that the official results can come from only the Returning Officer (RO) as candidates and their election agents are bound by rules and guidelines on confidentiality.
