Wellness chain boss' kin wins $1.5m suit: By Selina Lum & Ng Kai Ling MRS Theresa Chew, the co-founder and face

Expressions co-founder Theresa Chew was declared bankrupt last year. MRS Theresa Chew, the co-founder and face of wellness chain Expressions, and her husband have been made bankrupts, and this has led to a $1.5 million lawsuit between her brother-in-law and 37 shareholders of the holding company. Mrs Chew, 51, founded Expressions International in 1989, and it currently runs five outlets in Singapore offering beauty, slimming and spa services. In 2006, Mrs Chew and her husband, Mr David Chew, set up a holding company, Expressions International Holdings (EIH). In June last year, the couple were made bankrupt over a share transaction with 37 shareholders of the holding company. It spawned a legal fight between Mr Chew's brother - Mr Chiu Khai Weng - and the shareholders after both sides disputed the purpose of $1.5 million that Mr Chiu had paid to their lawyers.
