Bizarre sending-off - Aussie rules footballer sent off for "dangerous haircut"

AN AUSTRALIAN rules footballer was sent off not for a dangerous tackle but for a dangerous haircut. Nathan Van Someren, 25, was ordered off the field during the third quarter of his team Simpson's game against Otway Districts in the Colac and District Football League for his "dangerous" spiky mohawk hairstyle. The umpire had warned the 25-year-old before the match, but Van Someren took it as a joke. "Before the game the umpire said that I could not play with my hair like that. He told me it was dangerous," he told the Geelong Advertiser. "We all thought that he was taking the mickey out of me." Van Someren, who works as an electrician, managed to play in the first and second quarters of the match, which lasts 25 minutes each. But in the third quarter, the umpire decided to send him off.
