WP's Yee Jenn Jong, Gerald Giam, to take up NCMP seats #SGelections

THE Workers' Party (WP) has nominated executive council member Gerald Giam, 33, who stood in East Coast GRC, to take up a Non-Constituency MP (NCMP) seat in Parliament. Its decision, reached on Thursday night, however prompted the leader of its East Coast GRC team Eric Tan, 55, to resign from the party. Mr Tan had wanted to to take up the NCMP post but did not receive the support of the party's CEC. The WP was offered two NCMP seats. One is for Mr Yee Jenn Jong, 46, who got 49 per cent of votes in the single-seat of Joo Chiat and the other for one of the five members of its East Coast GRC team, which got 45.2 per cent of votes. In a brief statement announcing the WP's nominations on Friday, WP chairman Sylvia Lim said the party's executive council had deliberated on these seats.
