Our reader says the GRC system resulted in the loss of a great minister. #SGelections

I REFER to Mr Ang Chin Guan's letter, ("George Yeo not at fault"; Tuesday). While it is extremely traumatising to many in Singapore that the loss of Aljunied GRC has led to the loss of Mr George Yeo, one must not be quick to dismiss Singaporeans as not knowing what they want, in that their desire for more alternative voices have cost the country its Foreign Minister. The fact that Mr Yeo lost in the GE is no fault of anyone but that of the GRC system. Under this system, we saw the loss of a great minister and we also saw how an unpopular candidate got into Parliament because her team was helmed by another seasoned politician. The GRC system is unfair to not just any candidate eager to serve the country and its people, but it is also a flawed system for those seeking a stronger identity with their community. I, for one, find it quite a stretch to see how I belong in Chua Ch...
