I HAD an accident two years ago at a slip road when a car hit mine from the rear. The driver and I exchanged details and agreed to report to our respective insurance companies. On Tuesday, I received a letter from a law firm acting on behalf of my insurance company's authorised workshop, informing me that the other driver did not report the accident and, thus, they were unable to claim against the other insurance company. On top of this, they had tried and failed to locate the person (the address on the NRIC was not up to date). As such, they demanded that I, the victim, pay the cost of the repairs, car rental and lawyer's fees which came up to S$2,022.47. When I called the law firm to find out more, they told me I had signed an undertaking allowing them to reverse the charges and fees. No authorised workshop takes a car without such an undertaking.
