Alternative Malay voice in Parliament will enrich Malay-Muslim community: Yaacob

SINGAPORE : Having an alternative Malay voice in Parliament will help enrich ideas in Singapore's Malay-Muslim community, says Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs, Yaacob Ibrahim. Dr Yaacob was commenting on the first Malay opposition Member of Parliament - Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap - who is from the Workers' Party Aljunied team that won in the General Election. Speaking on the sidelines of a community event on Saturday, Dr Yaacob said the party welcomes debate in Parliament that results in the formation of useful ideas. Dr Yaacob also commented on the loss of outgoing Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zainul Abideen Rasheed. Mr Zainul, along with Foreign Minister George Yeo, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua, Cynthia Phua and Ong Ye Kung, were part of the People's Action Party (PAP) Aljunied team which lost the General Election.
