SINGAPORE : Malaysia's High Court on Monday ruled that opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's defence team had a case to answer in his sodomy trial, after finding the prosecution's main witness "credible". The decision meant Anwar is facing his second sodomy trial in more than a decade. He was first put on trial in 1999 for sodomising his wife's driver, while he was Deputy Prime Minister. Anwar was fired from the Cabinet after reports that he was being investigated for sex and corruption charges. On 29 September 1998, Anwar appeared in court and pleaded innocent to charges of sodomy and corruption. His trial on charges of corruption began in November that year. It concluded in April 1999, and he was he sentenced to 6 years in prison for corruption. Barely two months later, Anwar faced charges of sodomy.
