Insufficient maid supply for Malaysia, Indonesia warns - TODAYonline

JAKARTA - Indonesia has warned that there may not be enough Indonesian domestic workers to meet Malaysia's demand from next month. Malaysia's two-year moratorium on Indonesian domestic workers entering the country is expected to end later this month when Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to protect domestic workers' rights. Among the conditions Jakarta is seeking is a minimum monthly wage of RM700 (S$288) for Indonesian maids. But Indonesia's Labour and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said his country may not be able to meet the demand, which he pegged at 50,000 domestic workers, reported Malaysian newspaper The Star.
