A new MRT platform opening at Jurong East on May 27 will help reduce commuter waiting time to between two and three minutes. -- ST PHOTO: LEE PEI QI SOME relief for train commuters is on the way - a new MRT platform opening at Jurong East station on May 27, and the addition of 22 trains by end December, will expand the carrying capacity of the North-South and East-West lines by 15 per cent. Commuters can also expect waiting times to be cut by up to a minute during peak periods. The Land Transport Authority expects commuter waiting time to be reduced to between two and three minutes, from the current 2.5 and 4 minutes. The extra platform, which will serve commuters taking the North-South Line towards Woodlands, is part of the the Jurong East Modification Project, announced in 2008.
