Jaques London - Singapore paddlers qualify for 2012 Olympics - Straits Times

ROTTERDAM - FENG Tianwei, Wang Yuegu, Gao Ning and Yang Zi have become the first Singaporean athletes to qualify for the 2012 Olympics. The national paddlers earned their tickets to London yesterday, after the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) world rankings were published. They are among the top 28 men and 28 women who have earned direct entry to the Olympics for the singles event. There is a limit of two players per team for each gender. While the ITTF typically releases the rankings at the start of each month, this one was published following the World Table Tennis Championships that concluded in Rotterdam on Sunday. Although the four Singapore players will still need to get the final okay from the Singapore National Olympic Council, which is expected to meet in March or April next year, that is expected to be a formality.
