CPR device may up survival chances in cardiac arrest cases

SINGAPORE : A new mechanical device for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) could increase the chance of survival of patients with cardiac arrest. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the device is more effective than manual CPR. Hands-free, compact and mobile - the latest device by the SCDF aims to provide more consistent and effective chest compressions on the go. SCDF said this will address current difficulties that paramedics face, such as providing consistent CPR while transporting patients. "You have to bring the patient to the lift, maybe down the stairs, to the void deck, from the stretcher to the ambulance. So this is something that the mechanical device can certainly do better," said Dr Poon Beng Hoong, SCDF's chief medical officer.
