Man City ready to break world record to being Cristiano Ronaldo back to England, claims UK tabloid

LONDON - Manchester City are ready to smash the world transfer record to bring Cristiano Ronaldo (picture) back to the English Premier League, according to an "exclusive" in yesterday's Daily Mirror. The 26-year-old Ronaldo left Manchester United in 2009 to join Real Madrid for £80 million (S$161 million), the highest-ever football transfer fee. The Portuguese forward would replace Carlos Tevez should the City captain decide to leave, the newspaper reported. Tevez has been dogged by rumours about his future since he submitted a transfer request last December. As a Real player, Ronaldo has scored 38 La Liga goals in 37 games so far this season, three more than City's Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko, Jo, Adam Johnson, David Silva and Tevez have mustered between them in the English top flight.
