SINGAPORE: COE premiums for most categories rose marginally in the latest open bidding exercise. COEs for small cars (1,600cc and below) rose the most, up S$2,199 to almost S$46,989, the highest this year. Big car COEs (1,600cc and above) rose S$289 to S$56,300. The open category COEs rose S$399 to S$56,889 while the COEs for goods vehicles rose S$1,100 to S$22,989. The only COEs which fell was for motorcycles, down S$240 to S$2,013. Car dealers said the surge in Category A was due to more continental brands coming into the segment. Sebastian Sim, sales manager at KIA Motors, explains: "It might be due to the continental makes coming into the Cat A COE which they used to be in Cat B. All the big cars (come) with smaller engines nowadays, usually 1.6 (litre). And usually all these continental makes come with better margins, therefore they can afford to bid for a higher pric...
