Singapore to adopt face recognition at border control points #Biometrics

SINGAPORE : The Singapore government will award an estimated S$1.1 billion worth of public sector projects to the infocomm industry this financial year. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) announced this at an industry briefing on Thursday. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) plans to implement a biometric system - called the Flexi Immigration Clearance System (Flex-i) - that recognises a person's face at immigration checkpoints and allows the person to enter the country in record time. The project is the first of its kind in Singapore and will allow ICA to toggle between automated and manned counters for immigration clearance. ICA said it will be of particular benefit at checkpoints that experience a high traffic load. It plans to implement the technology at the upcoming International Cruise Terminal.
