Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) will roll out S$1.1 billion worth of infocomm projects this financial year. IDA noted that the outlook for the sector remained good as spending and demand is set to grow with the move towards using IT to enhance service delivery. Some new projects for FY 2011 include those for the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Science & Technology Agency, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Ministry of Manpower and the National Environment Agency. MHA, for instance, is looking to implement road-safety enforcement technology for the Singapore Police Force. The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority meanwhile is planning to install a biometric facial recognition system for clearing immigration checkpoints.
