Central Narcotics Bureau officer charged with 4 counts of failing to arrest two suspects for offering him bribes

A CENTRAL Narcotics Bureau officer was charged on Friday with four counts of failing to arrest two suspected drug offenders for offering him bribes. Lim Tian Siew alias Lang Tian Siew, 54, a senior staff sergeant, is said to have failed to arrest and hand Lee Lai Chye and Yew San Yong over to the nearest police station without reasonable excuse for corruptly offering him $30,000 at a coffeeshop near Owen Road on a day in October 2009. He is accused of similarly not arresting them for offering him $100,000 at Quality Hotel in Balestier Road in May 2010. Lim told the court that he wished to engage a lawyer. His case will be mentioned on May 26. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $5,000 or a jail term of up to six months or to both on each of the four charges.
