Up to 70 staff members were cut from Lonely Planet's head office in Melbourne due to a combination of the "sluggish global economy, the troubled retail sector, a declining print market and, significantly, the effects of the strong Australian dollar," said its chief executive Matt Goldberg. Meanwhile, the travel-related industry is still going wild unleashing a whole bunch of apps and social media platforms. In this past week alone, BlackBerry launched its own BlackBerry Travel App in Singapore, and the Hong Kong Tourism Board and Cathay Pacific collaborated on a Discover Hong Kong Mobile App Series that even allows for the camera on your phone to be used as location finder. Besides smart phone apps, there are Twitter guides and Facebook apps such as Where I've Been. Let's not forget ...
