I AGREE with political editor Chua Lee Hoong on the appropriateness of appointing Mr Khaw Boon Wan as Minister for National Development ('A Cabinet for 2020'; Thursday). However, I would like to highlight some points in the commentary. Ms Chua implies that the loss of Aljunied GRC was a loss for Singaporeans. I beg to differ. It was a loss for the People's Action Party (PAP), not Singaporeans. GE 2011 was a watershed not only because the Workers' Party (WP) made a breakthrough in a group representation constituency but also because: It woke the PAP from slumber and reliance on past glories. I hope it will take a hard relook at policies that brought inequitable growth. It galvanised not only non-PAP parties and the underprivileged who were affected but also many public-spirited people like me who have benefited from the system yet think the system is unfair because the PAP ...
