PM appoints committee to review ministerial salaries

GUESTS are starting to arrive at the Istana for tonight's Cabinet swearing-in ceremony, which is due to start shortly after President S R Nathan arrives at 7.30pm. The President will inaugurate 15 ministers of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's new Cabinet, as well as 10 ministers of state. About 700 guests have been invited to witness the ceremony, which is taking place just two weeks after Singaporeans went to the polls in the 11th General Election since independence. The guests include former Members of Parliament (MPs), students, social workers, unionists, doctors, nurses, teachers, businessmen and soldiers. A speech by the Prime Minister will cap the ceremony in the state room, after which there will be a dinner reception on the Istana lawn.
