"Husband poisoning case" investigator's credibility questioned

SINGAPORE: The High Court heard on Monday that the credibility of the police officer involved in investigating the case of an elderly woman who poisoned her husband, has to be considered. This is because the police officer himself is facing 14 charges under the Misuse of Computer Act for attempting to do a computer search of police records in 2009 for personal usage. Hence, Wendell Wong, the lawyer of 69-year-old Fong Quay Sim, argued that her confession on poisoning her husband was also questionable. Fong, who had been convicted of poisoning her husband of more than 30 years by lacing his tea and food with arsenic, is appealing against her conviction and one-year jail sentence. Mr Wong argued that Fong was coerced to make a confession and asked for additional evidence in the form of psychiatric reports to be considered.
