New York Ferris wheel aims to be world's biggest, surpassing London and Singapore

It's said that there's no point in reinventing the wheel. The mayor of New York disagrees, as he vowed that the city is building the world's biggest ferris wheel, overtaking the current record holder in Singapore and far outstripping the London Eye. "The New York Wheel will be an attraction unlike any other in New York City – even unlike any other on the planet,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg told AFP. “It will offer unparalleled and breathtaking views, and is sure to become one of the premier attractions in New York City.” The current world record holder is the Singapore Flyer, which reaches a dizzying height of 165 meters. The Big Apple hopes to build a 190-meter-high Ferris wheel in the city's least-developed borough, Staten Island, across the water from Manhattan's Financial District. The wheel will be able to carry 1,440 people at a time. The wheel is slated for completion...
