S'pore's Mercy Relief helps with nutrition program for tsunami victims

JAPAN: Donations and offers of assistance are still pouring into disaster-stricken Japan, with help coming from over 40 international organisations whose relief supplies continue to help the victims in affected areas. Singapore's Mercy Relief procured goods such as food supplies and basic necessities, using S$2 million worth of donations collected. They distributed milk, vegetable juice and yoghurt drinks to to a primary school in Otsuchi in Iwate Prefecture, as part of a nutrition program for children affected by the disaster. Many of them are from schools that have been damaged by the tsunami. Half of the city was covered by the tsunami. Over 1700 residents of the town are dead or missing, and 6600 residents are evacuees.
