Maid stages housebreaking; steals over S$30,000 worth of jewellery

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 35-year-old Indian domestic helper for stealing more than S$30,000 worth of jewellery from her employer. Three Indian nationals were also arrested for dishonestly receiving stolen property. The incident happened Tuesday. The maid had left the house at about 8.45 am. When she returned at around 10.00 am, she discovered that the whole house was ransacked. However, police officers suspected something might be amiss due to the maid's behaviour. The breakthrough came when the officers found some of the stolen jewellery hidden inside the water tank of the toilet bowl. More evidence was gathered. The domestic helper was confronted with the evidence, and she eventually revealed that she had staged the housebreaking.
