SINGAPORE - Accounting firms in Singapore need to focus more on talent management schemes and boosting their training budgets or they will fail to attract and retain talent in the sector. That was the message from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore or ICPAS yesterday as it released the results of four surveys it has undertaken over the last six months. One of the surveys saw ICPAS interviewing accountancy undergraduates from the three local universities - NTU, NUS and SMU. The survey saw respondents citing "personal interest" as the main factor in determining their career choice. The students also ranked monetary compensation as third on their list of priorities after opportunity for advancement and professional development. The president of ICPAS, Dr Ernest Kan, said accounting firms need to change their approach if they want to attract these Gen Y...
