SINGAPORE: Observers say the Singapore government is in a position to strengthen its efforts to look beyond economic growth as a measure of success. It will be necessary to give greater emphasis on social indicators in order to deliver more effective policies, add observers. The observers said this when they were asked to comment on the OECD's recent unveiling of what's been called a "happiness index". Singapore's recent General Election saw issues concerning basic needs like housing, education and health being discussed. Some Singaporeans called on the government to look beyond material gains and to invest more in the "heartware".
