The glamorously honed Singapore Symphony Orchestra under its Chinese-born, Boston-trained music director, Lan Shui, are currently on a European visit taking in Berlin, Munich, Dresden, Prague and Mannheim. Specially commissioned for the tour, Chen Zhangyi's single-movement of an ethereal symphony – introduced in Singapore on January 9 and given its Western premiere at the Berlin Philharmonie on May 23 – explores “the idea of cosmic motion of otherworldly places”.
