BEIJING: The last time Wang Chun Yun’s father weighed him, the 14-year-old tipped the scales at 150kg. His obesity isn’t just embarrassing to the young teenager from Guizhou – it has also become life-threatening. “I will fall asleep during class… After I turned eight years old, my classmates started calling me ‘fat’, and when I look at myself in the mirror, I feel frustrated,” said Chun Yun. He underwent gastric banding surgery to force weight-loss, when doctors became concerned that his sleep apnea – when breathing is disrupted during sleep - could cause him to die in his sleep. He is also at risk of Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
