Rolling with Papa Rock

THEY call him "Papa Rock". And it's not just because he's a rocker and a dad. Ramli Sarip has been acknowledged by many on both sides of the Causeway as the Father Of Malay Rock. The singer/songwriter/producer formed one of Singapore's premier rock bands, Sweet Charity, back in 1969, and released seven hit albums before the band disbanded and he went solo in 1985. And he hasn't stopped. In fact, Ramli has released two offerings this year alone: One is a two-disc remastered compilation of duets taken from his solo career, Mutiara Zaman (Pearl Era), which also contains four new recordings and marks his 25th year in the business; the other is a Sweet Charity CD+DVD set, 40 Tahun Bagaikan Bermimpi (Like Dreaming For 40 Years), a live recording of the band's sold-out 40th anniversary concert held at the Esplanade in 2009 - which also includes a picture book telling the story of...
