SINGAPORE - As he assumes his new role as Health Minister, top on Mr Gan Kim Yong's (picture) list of issues to address is ensuring that the capacity of Singapore's healthcare services can keep pace with the changing demographic and addressing concerns over healthcare cost. Mr Gan made these comments yesterday in his first blog post on "Health Minister Says", which was started by his predecessor Khaw Boon Wan. Sharing his thoughts on the "unfinished business" in healthcare mentioned by Mr Khaw in his final post, Mr Gan said Singapore needed to plan ahead not only in terms of physical capacity but also in human resource development to ensure a sufficient supply of healthcare professionals and workers.
