Help them quit smoking: One initiative launched by the HPB is the "I Quit" clubs, which sees former smokers help...

SINGAPORE: The Health Promotion Board (HPB), which noted smoking has increased in Singapore from 12.6 per cent in 2004 to 14.3 per cent in 2010, said it is adopting a bottom-up approach to help smokers kick the habit. HPB said this on Sunday at the launch of the National Smoking Campaign 2011, adding it hopes to bring down the number of smokers to 10 per cent by 2020. This follows the release of a national survey that revealed smoking has risen most sharply for those aged 18 to 39 years, despite Singapore's good tobacco control measures as well as measures to raise awareness. The national study showed most smokers are men and that smoking is also prevalent in low-income households that earn S$2,000 or less.
