PETALING JAYA - THE planned amnesty programme for illegal immigrants has received backing from most organisations. Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye believed that such programmes to reduce illegal immigrants in Malaysia would assist in crime enforcement and prevention. Furthermore, he said, the programme would help the Government keep records of the immigrants.'It is rather difficult to trace illegal immigrants who commit crimes as they have no records,' he said, adding that the authorities would be able to keep track and work together to prevent crime once the immigrants were legalised. Fomca president Datuk Marimuthu Nadason was also supportive of the amnesty initiative, saying it would be the 'best move' for everyone.
