TAINTED food additives have found their way into the bakery sector in Taiwan, with almost 30 baking ingredient stores identified as selling contaminated items so far, the health authorities said. The officials had yet to reveal the names of these stores, as the investigation continued, but they are reportedly located in Taipei, New Taipei, Taichung, Yunlin, Tainan and Kaohsiung. Taiwan has been hit by a food scandal since the health authorities said earlier this month that many brands of sports drinks, juices and health supplements contain DEHP. Prolonged intake of DEHP suppresses the male hormone testosterone in humans, leading to stymied masculinity in men and premature puberty and even breast cancer in women.
