Tan Kin Lian to contest Presidential Election

Mr Tan Kin Lian, former NTUC Income Chief, said he would be running for President. -- ST PHOTO: NG SOR LUAN FORMER NTUC Income Chief Tan Kin Lian has confirmed on Tuesday that he will be contesting the upcoming Presidential Election. In a blog entry, Mr Tan said that he would run for President, if he is given the Certificate of Eligibility. He also provided a paper which explained the approach he intended to take, if elected. He also mentioned that a key role of the elected President of Singapore was to safeguard the reserves, adding that former President Ong Teng Cheong had faced difficulty in performing this role. He said that Singaporeans had two main concerns: Whether or not the money in their Central Provident Fund was safe, and whether the country had enough reserves to protect Singapore's economic security. He promised to issue a full statement on Wednesday.
