Staff at the US embassy could have shown more compassion to an elderly lady, says our reader.

I AM disappointed with the services of staff at the Embassy of the United States in Singapore. I was at the embassy last Thursday. While inside the consular section, I saw an elderly woman submitting her supporting documents for her visa application. She had forgotten to bring her photo along, and was asked to have it taken at the self-operated photo booth, where each shot costs $10. The woman had her photo taken but was told it did not meet the requirements. She had her photo taken three more times before the female officer finally accepted it. By then, she had already spent a whopping $40. The woman was clearly struggling and it would have been helpful if the officer had taken a bit more initiative.
