SINGAPORE: It is easy and cheap to buy contact lenses in bulk online with just a click-of-a-mouse, but is it safe? For many, convenience trumps other worries about proper eye care. Online purchases allow a buyer to buy any quantity of lenses, in any color, and at cheaper prices - all without having to check your eyes. "You can spend S$30 to S$40 on lenses that can last you for a full year," said a 29-year-old online buyer. "Those that you buy at retail shops will only last you one to three months." But optometrists said this can be dangerous if buyers continue to ignore the potential dangers from buying contact lenses from unlicensed online sellers. Contact lenses may hurt the eyes if not properly prescribed, said Bridgette Yeoh, a consultant optometrist at Stan Isaacs.
