VIENNA - THE Opec oil cartel mulled an output hike Tuesday ahead of a crucial production meeting, as it seeks to help the faltering global economy and address vocal consumer calls for lower crude prices. The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, whose 12 member nations provide some 40 percent of global oil supplies, meets here on Wednesday amid fears that high prices could further dampen the weak global economic recovery and sap energy demand. Oil prices have buckled this week over worries about the faltering economic recovery, and on speculation that Opec may decide to raise supplies to compensate for dwindling output from Libya.
