Learning is a life long task. If you run too fast in a marathon you will run out of breath very quickly and everyone that was behind you will overtake you. It is fair to say that many people in Singapore are burnt out by the time they finished their first undergraduate degree. Their life has been one long traumatic experience of going from one class to another. Classes doesn’t end when school end. It is on to tuition. The main reason why they have to take extra classes is because their classes are too big – more than 40 – and the teacher can’t handle so many people. In other developed countries the class size is much smaller. If class size doesn’t matter then why not save more money by having a class size of 100 or even 200.
