Nicole Seah: Social media has potential to promote political discourse - The Temasek Review #socialmedia

Speaking at a post-GE forum “What Youth want” organized by the Institute of Policy Studies last night, popular young politician Nicole Seah called on the government to relax the regulations governing the online media. The new media played an important role in the 2011 General Election which helped to amplify genuine sentiments on the ground and bridge the gap between the citizens and politicians. An avid user of Facebook herself, Nicole opined that social media will go far in shaping Singapore’s political landscape: “I do think that social media has great potential to go far in promoting debate and discourse in society.” One of TR’s unofficial Facebooks set up by its fans has been conducting daily Townhall meetings at 10pm to discuss current affairs and national issues concerning Singaporeans.
