Singapore (The Star/ANN) - Competition in Southeast Asian region's aviation sector has just gone up a few notches, with Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Virgin Australia signing an agreement for a longterm partnership here. Some analysts believe that in response, Malaysia Airline s (MAS) will have to quickly go beyond its latest move to join the oneworld airline alliance. One possibility is a direct tie-up with Qantas, which will sponsor MAS' entry into oneworld. Oneworld is one of the world's three largest global airline alliances with its central management team, Oneworld Management Co, based in Vancouver, Canada. Through its deal with Virgin Australia, SIA hopes to benefit significantly from the greater access to the Australian routes.
